The Smart Energy Alliance can implement a two-way fixed network to automatically collect data from energy meters. Data is transferred to a central database over a common network and communications media. This can enable more advanced capabilities such as pre-paid metering, distribution SCADA, and smart meter agents. Smart metering pilots can lead to reduced cost of meter reads, elimination of “Hard to Read”, “Missed Reads” & inaccurate reads, better theft detection, faster & accurate billing cycle for rate payer and utility, and improved tax & government reporting.
